Why do we have to have an election?
There are 12 seats which make up Silsden Town Council. For many years there hasn’t been a need to hold a local election because at the time of local elections (May) there have been no contested seats.
However, this year there are 11 candidates for the 10 seats available.
Why are only 10 seats up for election?
The town council is made up of 12 elected representatives, but the council has an OUTER and an INNER membership. There are two seats allocated to the outer area, these have not been contested this year.
However, the inner area has 10 seats allocated. This year there have been 11 applications for council membership. Hence the need for a local election this year.
What do I have to do to vote?
There are 11 names on the election form.
You will be asked to vote for no more than 10 candidates by putting an X in the box next to each of your choices.
The candidates all live in Silsden working for you to make Silsden a better place. Your vote is important.
Silsden Town Councillors do NOT get paid.
Why have some candidates got (address in Bradford)?
When the candidate registered their application some asked not to have their address published on the voting form. But rather than the general address of Silsden, it was published as (address in Bradford).
All candidates taking part in the election of councillors to Silsden Town Council live in Silsden.
